Vienna 55 years . . . Vienna was
represented at the party by Hy
Rothstein, partner with Marty
Cook in Vienna Wholesale.
Hy Horenstein is 74 years old
and can still work with the best of'
them . . . regardless of age . . . His
places were always open seven
days a week . . . until after the
eighth year on Coolidge . . . closed
Sundays . . . and then changed to
Mondays.
His mother, Sarah, lives in Sac-
ramento . . . and is 101 years old
. . The late father of Hy, Max,
Lou and Sam — Nathan Horens-
tein — used to haye the barber-
ship next to Cream of Michigan on
12th and Pingree.
Hy's "retirment" could result in
another world . . . He is so learned
in the deli restaurant game that
Vienna is pondering the thought
of sending him around the coun-
try teaching owners how to cook
corned beef and run their business
properly.
"I'm single and available," says
a pert and dapper Hy Horenstein,
who at 74 looks fit enough to be in
the ring training with the fellows
battling in a picture on his wall
. . . Rocky Marciano and Jersey
Joe Wolcott
No doubt about it . . . Hy knows
his business . . . and whoever gets
him out of "retirment" will
capitalize much.
The end of a legend? . . . I don't
_think so . . . and neither do a lot of
others . . . Let's just call it Hy
Horenstein's retirement as a de-
licatessen - restaurant owner.

AMERICAN ARTISTS
SERIES, noted for performing

rarely-heard works by top-notch
composers, begini this Sunday...
featurng concert pianist Joann
Freeman and members of the De-
troit Symphony Orchestra.
The 3 p.m. concert is in Kings-
wood Auditorium, on Cranbrook
Road in Bloomfield Hills.

IRVING'S DELI on Green-
field north of 11 Mile is no more
. . . The doors have been shut as a
delicatessen ... and may reopen
as a family restaurant ... not a
Jewish deli.... Pharmaceutical
owner Allan Cohen, who bought
the place from the Guttman fam-
ily, admits hiet - ceistake ... that
running a rests ant is for re-
staurant people .. The learning
experience cos Allan a lot of
moola ... and a gravation ... to
be sure.
Irving's at La Mirage on
Northwestern and Irving's of Troy
are both still going strong ..
owned and operated by the
Guttman.. -
