2 IDF soldiers Killed,
In Lebanon Ambush

Tel Aviv (JTA) — Two soldiers
of the Israel-backed South Leba-
non Anny (SLA) were killed in
the south Lebanon security zone
last week and another SLA sol-
dier and an Israel Defense Force
adviser were wounded.
The casualties occurred when
an SLA vehicle- mine under au-
tomatic fire from a house in Beit
Kounin village. The house was
subsequently blown up by the
SLA after the three families oc-
cupying it were evicted and expel-
led from the village. •
Four SLA soldiers rushing to
the scene of the ambush were in-
jured when their car struck a land
mine. A senior Israeli military
source, commenting on these
events, said Palestinian terrorists
are returning to south Lebanon
and have reestablished their
stronghold at the Bin Hilwe re-
fugee camp.
In Washington, representatives
of major Jewish organizations
met with officials of the Lebanese
Embassy last week to express
"outrage" at the murder of Haim
Cohen Halala, one of four Beirut.

battening down for one of their
toughest assignments — winder
duty on Mt. Hermon which over-
looks the Bekaa Valley in eastern
Lebanon. The valley is the site of
many terrorist bases and training
areas. The mountainous region to
the south is a favorite infiltration
route to Israel, which is the reason
the IDF maintains a year-round
watch from Mt. Hermon. -
The peak and slopes are already
covered with snow. Access roads
at lower levels are kept open with
snowplows but the IDF lookout
post on the mountain top which
commands a view of large parts Of
Syria becomes snowed in at this
time of year. The IDF has invested
large sums of money to build .a
funicular sable railway to trans-
port men and supplies to the top.
