Hughes is in charge of sales, mar-
keting and the development of new
products while _Sheila is responsible
for the day-to-day operations of the
company. Jon, the Potiker's oldest
child, also works in the business. As
vice president of publications, Jori
handled much of the work on the Israel'
editions of the. Entertainment Book.
Hughes agrees that the primary
reason for the company's even keel at
the top is that -he and Sheila decided
"not to do the same thinge at the same
time." "
"I' know we often view the same
situation very differently,", the presi-
dent explains. "So the trick is to make
sure that we channel that input in
positive directions."
So much for life at the office. To-
day, when the average work week
often exceeds' the normal 40 hours,
especially for those running their own .
business,' a substantial segment of
work is done outside the ciffice. For the
Potikers, taking work home has , pre-
sented some interesting challenges.
"I think there definitely were
some stressful, situations that en-
countered that we wouldn't have had
to deal with if we worked in different
occupations," Sheila says. "When the '
kids were young and there was a big
demand on our time in both directions
family and work, it could-reallY
get hairy.

"You have -to be a certain.type of
person in order to be able to cope with
that. It Worked out well for us, but
don't think it's for everybody?'
According to:Hughes, sons. Lowell
and Brian and daughter Jori excelled
at bringing Sheila and himself back
down to earth from the two-for-one
world they' created. The kids made
sure other subjects were covered at the
Potiker dinner table besides the latest
restaurant featured in tile book.
"Although there were times when
the kitchen table was overburdened
with both work and family matters, we
tried to make time at home with the
