"Paul has the reputation of
being a hard guy who is the sof-
test touch in town when it
comes to charity. His generosity
is so great that it has helped our
community set new high stan-
dards of giving to • many impor-
tant fund4aising ptojects. Be-
cause. of the example he sets
with his personal sense of
tzedekah, he can solicit others
more successfully than the av-
erage volunteer worker. I have
never.heard anyone criticize the
size of his contributions."
When an urgent call came
from Israel seeking support for
the . underprivileged and par-
tially retarded, Zuckerman re-
sponded by accepting the
American chairmanship of
AKIM. Through the years he
hosted gatherings for AKIM, en-
listed supporters, made it a
major cause in his life.
In recent years he devoted
himself to educational tasks and
his efforts were recognized in
honorary degrees by Bar-Ilan •
University and Siena
Heights College in Michigan.
He was constantly traveling
in behalf of UJA and Israeli
causes and he aided immensly
in tasks of beautifying
Jerusalem, in the process estab-
