Tavy Stone

Tavy Stone, a journalist who
was a leading promoter of
Michigan's fashion industry,
died Dee. 28 at age 67.
A native Detroiter, Mrs.
Stone, nee Charlotte Kornitzer
Lefton, attended Highland Park
High School and the University
of Chicago, which. she entered at
age 16 and from which she
earned a degree in philosophy.
As a youth she was a piano stu-
dent of Mischa Kottler.
Mrs. Stone was the Detroit
News fashion writer since 1979.
Previously, she arranged charity
benefits and did free-lance pub-
licity, contributing articles to
both daily newspapers.
She produced numerous
stories for the Detroit News and
its Michigan magazine. On the
fashion scene, she created a
fashion panel of local fashion
professionals who advised young
Michigan designers on market-
ing their work. Her lecture fees
went to scholarships for fashion
and design students in Michi-
gan. She was a major proponent
for an apparel market in Michi-
gan.
Mrs. Stone leaves her hus-
band, William; two daughters,
Meredith (Muffy) Stone Masch
and Julie; her mother, Mrs.
Jack (Freda) Lefton of Hol-
lywood, Fla.; and one grandson.

Martin Elsman

Martin Eisman, a retired
cloth cutter for Canvas Products
Co. in Oak Park, died Dec. 30 at
age 78.
Born in Poland, Mr. Eisman
came to the U.S. in 1951: Dur-
ing World War II he served with
the Polish Free Forces which
fought with the British, and was
decorated for his service. He was
a . member of the Radomer
Mutual Society.
Mr. Eisman is survived by a
brother, Abraham; nieces and
nephews.

Arthur Gelbrun

Tel Aviv (JTA) — Arthur
Gelbrun, Israeli composer-
conductor, died Dec. 23 at age
72. He won several prizes for his
compositions, which included
symphonies, ballet suites and .
chamber music.

New York (JTA). — Theresa
Goell, an archeologist who dis-
covered the tomb of the Hel-
lenistic King Antiochus I who
ruled in the first century BCE,
died 'Dec. 18. She was 84.
