scholars-in-residence program
brings Israeli scholars and intel-
lectuals to the United States to
speak with a cross-section of the
population about life in Israel.
The scholars-in-residence
program is co-sponsored by the
American Zionist Federation
and the Areerican Zionist Youth
Foundation.

of the DZF scholar-in-residence

Col. Uri Dromi
Col. Uri Dromi will be the De-
troit Zionist Federation's 1986
scholar-in-residence. He will be
in Detroit to speak to Jewish
and non-Jewish organizations
and groups from March 31 to
April 14.
Among the topics he will
speak on are: The Israeli-Arab
Conflict, The History of Zionism,
Zionism' — Where Do We Go
From Here?, Israel's National
Defense, Israel and The Dias-
pora, The Roles of The Elites in
Israel, Radicalism and Ex-
tremism in Israeli Society and
Maintaining Military Superior-
ity: Dilemmas of Quality and
Quantity.
A Sabra, Col. Dromi is a cum
laude graduate in history from
the Negev University and is
presently a Ph.D. candidate.
He is editor-in-chief of the
Ma'arachot magazine and was
chief of education for the Israeli
Air Force and 'a lecturer in the
department of Israeli history at
Tel Aviv University.
From 1975 to 1978, he was a
member of the Advisory Council
on Arab Affairs to Prime Minis- •
ter Yitzhak Rabin. He is an Is-
raeli .AirForce offwer and has
traveled abroad on various Is-
raeli Air Force missions some 30

With the help . of the American
Jewish Joint Distribution Com-
mittee, House of Lloyds, a toy
sales firm in Kansas City, has
agreed to match up to $2 million
in donations made for. African
famine relief.

`ceiling on individual donations.
Thanks to "open ,mailbox"
contributions this year, the JDC
has been able to assist famine
victims in Ethiopia, as well as
disaster victims in Mexico and
Colombia. This action is in con-
cert with' those of other Ameri-
can Catholic, Protestant and
non-sectarian agencies providing
humanitarian assistance to dis-
aster victims.
In its regular ongoing prog-
rams of aid to needy persons
around the world, the JDC re-
ceives funding from the Detroit
Jewish community through the
Allied Jewish Campaign.
