Grif- fiths, lieutenant governor of Michigan. Ms. Griffiths received her J.D. degree from the University of Michigan. She served in the Michigan State Legislature from 1949 through 1952, was judge of Detroit. Recorder's Court in 1953 (the first woman to hold that post). Ms. Griffiths represented the 17th Congressional District of Michigan in Congress from 1955 to 1975. She sponsored the Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution, and successfully added the category of sex to the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Ms. Griffithi is the recipient of2,7 honorary degrees, includ- ing dee4s from Michigan State University, the University of Michigan and Wayne State University. She also has served as a\ director on the boards of almost a dozen major corpora- tions. , 'In 1982, Ms. Griffiths was elected lieutanant governor of
