DANNY RASKIN

IF YOU DIDN'T KNOW

where the restaurant was,
chances are not .so great of your
getting there ... it is in a shop-
ping center that was named
after a restaurant out of busi-
ness ... and until A & W takes
over, the name will still .be Far-
rell's Shopping Plaza, Southfield
and 121/2 Mile Roads.
People looking for Rodos are
told it is next to Restaurant
Duglass ... and if they don't
know where Doug Grech's din-
ing spot is, then other directions
would be across and down the
street from the•Southfield Plaza.
Rodos is at the extreme far
end of Farrell's ... on a south-
west corner sector ... Once
there, you can't miss it ... The
big sign smacks you in the face
when entering the plaza '... En-
trance to Rodos is not in front
. A side canopy beckons folks
to come try the excellent dishes
prepared by culinary perfec-
tionist and owner George Gerou.
Once you've been there,
though, no directions are again-
needed ... Rodos is not forgot-
ten easily ... George prides
himself on repeat customers ...
and rightly so ... this is the
trademark of a good establish-
ment.
He is also from the old school
of restaurateurs ... doesn't like
to skimp on either quality or
quantity ... The very reasona-
ble prices at
Greek-
American dining spot
s pot are added
attractions. .
Rodos, named after the. Island
of Rhodes, but spelled this way
in Greek,. seats 100 people at
white padded booths and white
padded table chairs ... Jan. 18
will be its second anniversary.
George has been in the re-
staurant business ten years ...
eight as a chef with his
brother-in-law Tom Drossos,
owner of Big Ben Restaurant on
Woodward south of Mack ...
When George's sister Sylvia
isn't helping out her husband,
she comes to Rodos for brother

Opa! to at least six fish dishes,
five pasta and veal, ten Greek
specialties and seven salads
George even makes his own
gyros, rather than buy the pres-
sed ground lamb you see on
most rotisseries . Want a
burger? ... He's got four of
them ... plus 16 other types of
sandwiches.
Doug Grech, next door at the
elaborately-priced Restaurant
Duglass, thinks so much of
Rodos food that he had George
cater his recent holiday party
for 100 people.
My waitress during dinner re-
cently at Rodos, Nitsa
(Papadopoulou) Kovas, is one of
those smiling, very -knowledge- _
able and efficient kinds you luc-
idly come across every so often
