Adam Brown Twins
His Bar Mitzvah
Adam Brown, the son of
Lawrence and Marcia Brown of
Southfield, will share his bar
mitzvah tonight at Temple Is-
rael with Evgeny Pekar, the son
of Iosef and Lea Pekar of Mos-
cow.
The twinning ceremony sym-
bolically links Adam with
Evgeny, who will celebrate hiss
bar mitzvah in absentia since no
Russian child under the age of
16, may participate in a reli-
gious observance.
Evgeny's father has been re-
fused permission to emigrate
from the Soviet Union since
1978. A radio engineer, his exit
visa was rejected because he al-
legedly had access to state
secrets.
Pekar has lost appeals for a
rehearing of the case and sub-
sequently, has been dismissed
from his job.
