Wolf Foundation
Boosts Grants

Herzlia — The Wolf Founda-
tion will make a record contri-.
bution in its tenth year of sup-
porting Israeli scholarship and
research.
At the request of Minister of
Education Yitzhak Navon, the
foundation is increasing its
grants by 20 percent, to
$266,000 during 1986, to 180 re-
cipients in Israeli institutions of
higher education.
The Wolf Foundation also
awards international prizes of
$100,000 each year for achieve-
ments in medicine, physics, ag-
riculture, mathematics, chemis-
try and the arts.
The $12 million Wolf Founda-
tion was founded in Israel "to
promote science and art for the
benefit of mankind" by the late
Dr. Ricardo Wolf. A chemist,
diplomat and philanthropist, Dr.
Wolf was born in Germany,
emigrated to Cuba, and was
Cuban Ambassador to Israel
where he died in 1981 at the
age of 93.

New Settlement

Jerusalem (JTA) — The first
new settlement to be established
under the unity government
opened last Wednesday at a
ceremony attended by Foreign
Minister Yitzhak Shamir.
The settlement, Migdalim, on
the trans-Samaria road, is the
first of six new settlements
scheduled to be established in
the West Bank and Gaza and
under the terms of the coalition
agreement between Labor and
Likud. The first civilian settlers
will be moving into Migdalim
within the next few days.

Klinghoffer
Tribute

New York (JTA) — The
American flag that draped the
casket of Leon Klinghoffer,
murdered by terrorists in the
Achille Lauro hijacking, will re-
side permanently in the Jewish
Chapel at the United States
Military Academy at West
Point.
In ceremonies last week,
Klinghoffer's widow, Marilyn,
presented the flag to representa-
tives of the West Point Jewish
Chapel.
