Rye Brook, N.Y. (JTA) —
Leaders of the Agudath Israel of
America and its Council of
Torah Sages delivered scathing
attacks on Reform and Conser-
vative Judaism at their 63rd na-
tional convention earlier this
month.
They strenously decried any
form of dialogue with the offi-
cial spiritual leadership" of the
two movements but urged Or-
thodox Jews, nevertheless to
create relationships on a per-
sonal level with individual
members of Reform and Conser-
vative Judaism who "have been
misled by their rabbis to believe
that 'you don't have to be
Jewish to be a Jew'."

America, singled out for attack
Rabbi Alexander Schindler,
president of the Union of
American Hebrew Congrega-
tions (Reform), in response, he
said, to Schindler's attacks on
Orthodoxy emanating "from a
growing realization among the
reform leaders that their brand
of Jewish religion is sterile, and
is incapable of bearing children
who will remain a living part of
the Jewish people."
The "accelerated strident" at-
tacks on Orthodoxy by "the Re-
formers" serve to "strengthen
our resolve not to give up on

any single Jew, and not to con-
cede even one iota in our dedica-
tion to save Jews from succumb-
ing to the onslaught of a hostile
society," Sherer declared.
The theme of the keynote ses-
sion was "Building Bridges and
Barriers for the Unity of Klal
Yisroel." One speaker, Rabbi
Shimon Schwab, told the 3,000
delegates, "There is no bridge
between Torah Judaism and any
other kind of Judaism," but he
and others implored Orthodox
Jews to extend themselves per-
sonally with Ahavas Yisroel
(love of Israel) to reach out to
non-observant Jews.

NCCJ Divests

New York — The National
Executive Board of the National
Conference of Christians and
Jews has voted yesterday to di-•
vest the portfolio holdings of the
organization from companies
doing business in South Africa.
The move is a protest against
apartheid.
The board called the racial
segregation policy of the South
African government "an affront
to human dignity and anathema
to everything the Conference
stands for in this nation and in
the world community."
