Yad Vashem
Raising Funds

New York (JTA) — More than
$5.1 million has been raised
toward a goal of $12 million for
Yad Vashem, the memorial in
-Israel to the victims of the
Holocaust.
That announcement was made

at the first dinner of the Inter-
national Society for Yad Vas-
hem, set up three years ago to
serve as the educational and de-
velopment arm of the Yad Vas-
-hem on the Mount of Remembr-
ance in Jerusalem.
More than 600 supporters
attended the event in New York
at which 36 Jewish communal
leaders each committed himself
to a minimum of $60,000 to
support Yad Vashem. Four
pledged a minimum of $250,000.

House Bill
On Foreign Gifts

-

New York — The American
Jewish Congress has hailed the
passage by the House of Repre-
sentatives this month of legisla-
tion that would require colleges
and universities receiving Fed-
eral aid to disclose sizable gifts
from foreign donors.
The legislation, introduced by
Representative Robert T. Matsui
(D-Calif.) and based upon a pro-
posal drafted by AJCongress at-
torneys, is designed to discour-
age intrusions on academic free-
dom by foreigm sources that at-
tempt to tie political or prop-
aganda strings to such gifts or
obtain exclusive rights to uni-
versity research fidnings.
