Visits Israel
Jerusalem (JTA) — French
Foreign Minister Roland Dumas
was in Israel next week for a
two day visit following De-
puty Premier Yitzhak Shamir's
visit to France last June.
The main issue on Dumas'
agenda was the import of Israeli
agricultural products, following
the entry of Spain and Portugal
into the European Economic
Community. Dumas came to
Jerusalem after attending a
weekend meeting of the EEC
Foreign Ministers in Brussels.
Dumas is considered a friend
of Israel, though he assisted the
Defense, as a lawyer, in the
trial against archbishop Hilar-
ion Capucci in 1974, for smuggl-
ing arms into Israel for the
PLO.
On Monday, an inter-
Departmental delegation from
Israel left for Brussels for talks
about Israel's relations with the
EEC. The talks focused on such
matters as how many tons of
avocados and flowers Israel will
be able to export each year to
the EEC without paying tarrifs,
and how high the tariffs will be
on each ton beyond the untaxed
ceiling.
Fire Destroys
Army Base
Jerusalem (JTA) — Fifteen
soldiers were injured and eight
were missing after a fire that
broke out early Monday morn-
ing on an army base in
Samaria. There was no im-
mediate indication of the cause
of the fire which swept through
the 16-room base within a mat-
ter of minutes as several dozen
soldiers were asleep. There were
no signs of arson.
The fire broke out long after
the electric power generator in
the base had been turned off.
The initial investigation, there-
fore, ruled out the possibility
that a short circuit had caused
the fire. Investigators pointed
out that the fire had spread
quickly because the soldiers'
sleeping quarters were prefabri-
cated housing, made of highly
flammable material.
The speed with which the fire
spread and the intense heat
made rescue work difficult.

New York (JTA) — The Sup-
reme Court of Australia has
prohibited an autopsy on a 71-
year-old Orthodox Jew who was
killed in an auto accident, in the
first such action taken by any
court in the British Common-
wealth, Allen Rothenberg,
president of the National Jewish
Commission on Law and Public
Affairs (COLPA) reported last
week.
The accident which killed
Jacob Sucher occurred last Sep-
tember in Melbourne, where
Sucher lived. The Sucher family
was represented in the case by
Harry Reicher, an Australian
who is chairman of COLPA'S
Australian chapter, with head-
quarters in Melbourne.
