Born in Detroit, Mr. Mills also was a consultant in the elec- tronics industry to such clients as the Internal Revenue Service. He was a ham radio operator and held the highest license from the FCC, that of an amateur extra class ham radio operator. He held a commercial FCC license for almost 50 years and was a member of the Quarter Century Wireless Association. He was active with Southfield Civil Defense as an amateur civilian emergency service member. In the late 1930s, Mr. Mills had a top priority security clearance to do experimental work at the Squire Labs for the U.S. Army Signal Corps at Ft. Monmouth, N.J. His activity in civil defense dates back to prior to World War II when he volun- teered for the Merchant Marine as a radio operator with the rank of ensign. Later, Mr. Mills taught elec- tronics in the Navy and ran the NAJ radio station. He volun- teered for submarine duty and served in the Atlantic and Pacific. A Department of Michigan, Jewish War Veterans, historian Mr. Mills was three time com- mander of the Robert J. Rafel- son Post of the JWV. Recently, he was a law enforcement in- structor for the Michigan De- partment of Natural Resources. He was a division officer in the Coast Guard Auxiliary, receiv- ing a certificate of appreciation from that division. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two daughters, Mrs. . Stuart (Nettie) Rosen and Linda; three sons, Gary Droz, Alan Droz and Kenneth Droz; a brother Leonard Milstein; and two grandchildren. presentations at universities throughout the country in the areas of knowledge-based repre- sentation formalisms and logic- based expert systems. Saltz, an attorney, died Dec. 6 at age 75. Born in New York, Mr. Saltz was a former residential builder, a licensed insurance broker and a licensed real estate broker. He was a member of Perfec- tion Lodge of the Masons, Louis D. Brandeis Lodge of B'nai B'rith and the Infants Service Group. He was a former member of Temple Israel and Adat Shalom Synagogue. Mr. Saltz leaves his wife, Lee; two sons, Leonard Saltz and Sheldon Kaye; a brother, Harold of Calabasas, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Ernie (Tess) Sackse of Laguna Hills, Calif.; and five grandchildren. Myrtle Redisch Myrtle Elizabeth Redisch, a life member of Women's Ameri- can ORT, died Dec. 8 at age 77. Born in Toledo, Ohio, Mrs. Redisch was a past president of Parkwood Chapter, Women's American ORT; a life member of Hadassah, Brandeis University National Women's Committee; and was secretary of United Order of True Sisters. She also was a life member of Pioneer Women, Sinai Hospital Guild and was a member of Temple Beth El for 50 years. She was a member of the Tem- ple Beth El Sisterhood, National Council of Jewish Women and received an Israel Bonds Woman of the Year Award in 1974. Mrs. Redisch also was chosen as woman of the year by Oak- land Century Lodge in 1983. She attended Northern High School and the former City Col- lege of Detroit (now Wayne State University). She is survived by her hus- band, David; two sons, Stephen and Dr. Robert; a sister, Mrs. Jack (Miriam) Martin of Beverly Hills, Calif.; and four grandchildren. In Loving Memory of SARA L. Freeman, a senior member of the logic-based systems group at Burroughs Corp., died Dec. 5 at age 46. Born in Detroit, Dr. Freeman attended Cranbrook School, from which he was graduated with highest honors. He was a National Merit Scholar at Har- vard University, was graduated summa cum laude and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He attended the Sorbonne in Paris and the University of California at Santa Barbara, where he re- ceived his Ph.D. degree in lin- guistics. Dr. Freeman was appointed an assistant professor of linguis- tics and Romance languages at the University of California at Irvine. He later moved to Har- vard, where he was assistant professor of linguistics and Ro- mance languages. He authored research publica- tions in the many areas of his computer expertise.
