He was a founder of the Hadassah School of Dentistry, established by Alpha Omega, in Jerusalem. Dr. Segal, who retired in May after practicing dentistry for 40 years, had offices in Birming- ham. Dr. Segal leaves his wife, Barbara; a son, Michael; two daughters, Diane Eskow and Deborah; a brother, Dr. Andrew E.; and four grandchildren. USY Funds Dr. Norman Segal American and Israeli associ- ates in the Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity and leaders in the Red Magen David for Israel joined this week in paying trib- ute to Dr. Norman A. Segal, 4,- who died Nov. 28. He was 63. Dr. Segal was among the most active associates of Dr. and Mrs. John Mames in the support of the Israel Magen David Adorn, the Israeli equivalent of the Red Cross. He was chairman of two of the annual MDA events here.For many years, Dr. Segal served on the Medical Dental Council of ARMDI. Dr. Mames announced that the Michigan Region of the American Red Magen David for Israel will establish a special paramedics training scholarship in memory of Dr. Segal. The Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity will establish a Dr. Norman A. Segal Student Loan and Library Fund in his memory. Dr. Segal was graduated from the Ohio State University School of Dentistry in 1945. He was an active attending member of the medical-dental staff of Sinai Hospital of Detroit and was a clinical instructor at the University of Detroit Dental School, where he was faculty adviser to the Alpha Nu under- graduate chapter of Alpha Omega. He was a past president of the Detroit Academy of Oral and Maxillo-Facial Surgeons, a member of the Detroit Chapter of Alpha Omega Dental Frater- nity and the Michigan Chapter of the American Academy of Oral Medicine and the Alpha Omega Parent Group. In addition, 1)r. Segal was a fellow of the American Associa- tion of Oral and Maxillo-Facial Surgeons; a member of the American, Michigan and Oak- land County Dental Societies; the Great Lakes Society of Oral and Maxillo-Facial Surgeons and the Michigan Society of Oral and Maxillo-Facial Sur- geons. Communally, Dr. Segal was involved in State of Israel Bonds, and chaired the Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity dinner on behalf of Bonds. He also was New York — Members of United Synagogue Youth (Con- servative) raised $153,000 in 1984-1985 for charitable projects and scholarship assistance for its members. The funds were used for USY tour programs and regional meetings, Conservative Move- ment programs in Israel, and to support 60 Jewish organizations throughout the world. Two Salutes New York — For the first time in history, two Jewish sis- ters are enrolled as cadets at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Sherri Crystal Langston, 19, began the rigors of West Point academics this semester, joining her sister, Brandy • Hope Langston, 20, who is a junior. Both are from Walkill, N.Y. and are active members of the West Point Jewish Chapel. Quota Protest New York — The Anti- Defamation League of B'nai B'rith has asked the U.S. Sup- reme Court to overturn a federal court order that mandates quotas in promotion of black and Hispanic firefighters in Cleveland. Director Retires New York — M. Bernard Re- snikoff, who has guided the pro- gram. and activities of the American Jewish Committee in Israel for more than 16 years, will retire as director of the AJ Committee's Israel office on Dec. 31.
