Coalition Day
Marked Saturday

The Mialigan Coalition of
Secular and Humanistic Jews
will conduct its second annual
Coalition Day on Saturday at
the Birmingham Temple. The
theme of the event is "Heroes of
Secular and Humanistic Jews."
The day-long event is spon-
sored by the coalition, a joint
undertaking of the Birmingham
Temple, the Sholem Aleichem
Institute, the Jewish Parents
Institute, the Workmen's Circle
and the Ann Arbor Jewish Cul-
tural School. The fee includes a
buffet luncheon.
The program will begin with a
discussion of the poet and intel-
lectual itaisar Zhitlowsky. The
__Clia-U–ssion will be conducted by
Max Rosenfeld, leader of the
Philadelphia Sholem Aleichem
Club.
Following luncheon, Martin
Kotch, professor of law at the
Detroit College of Law, will dis-
cuss Supreme Court Justice
Louis Brandeis.
The day will conclude with an
investigation of Emma
Goldman, led by Birmingham
Temple member Marilyn Row-
ens.
The Coalition Leadership
Awards will be presented during
the luncheon. Honorees are:
Edwin Shifrin, longtime activist
in the Workmen's Circle, the
Jewish Community Council,
Jewish Welfare Federation and
the United Hebrew Schools who
will receive the Leadership
Award "in recognition of his
service to the Jewish community
and the secular Jewish move-
ment"; and Irving Bluestone, re-
tired vice president of the UAW
and president of the Economic
Alliance of Michigan, who will
receive the Leadership Award
"in recognition of his service to
the Jewish Community, the
state of Michigan and the work-
ing men and women of this na-
tion."
Judy Goldstein, folk singer,
will entertain during luncheon.
Following 9:30 a.m. registra-
tion and opening remarks by
Mark Cousens, the schedule is
as follows: Rosenfeld, 10:15 a.m.;
luncheon, noon; awards pre-
sentation; 12:30 p.m.; Mrs.
Goldstein, 1 p.m.; Kotch, 1:30
p.m.; Marilyn Rowens, 2:45 p.m.
and. Rabbi Sherwin Wine, 3:30
p.m.

Bible Donated

Jerusalem — A rare Hebrew
Bible, published in Hamburg in
1587, was donated to the Jewish
National and University Library
at the Hebrew University of
Jerusalem in memory of the late
German publisher Axel
Springer.
The Bible, produced by Ger-
man Hebraic scholar Elias Hut-
ter, is considered significant for
Biblical research because of its
