LISTENING POST

DANNY RASKIN

CAN'T BELIEVE IT MY-
SELF ... never happened be-
fore ... but I know one thing
... just about whatever tickets
Ray Abrams is selling, I'm buy-
ing them ... he's that lucky!
Last year I bought some tic-
kets from him for Brotherhood
/=• of Temple Beth El and won the
first prize, a 19" remote color
TV ... This year I once more
bought from Ray and got a call
from Bruce Jacobs, co-chairman
with Jerry Balam, saying You
won again" ... honest ... a25"
remote color TV first prize by
Temple Beth El Sisterhood,
Brotherhood and Married
Group.
Can hardly blame those in the
300 strong who attended auction
and raffle for crying out "Fix!"
... (Come to think of it, Ray
sells Michigan Lottery tickets at
his Cushion 'n Cue spots ...
hmm!)
BEAUTIFUL HOME of Do-
reen and David Hermelin is
used for many benefits by this
well-liked couple ... Now comes
a Holiday Evening at the
Hermelins' abode ... for Al-
zheimer's Disease and Related
Disorders Association.
It'll be held this Wednesday,
7:30 p.m. ... with Pola Fried-
man, general chairperson . . .
and planning committee of Mar-
lene Borman, Lin Cargo, Doreen
Hermelin, Nancy Lombardo,
Sally Sehn and Beryl Winkel-
man.
Tickets for the dessert recep-
tion are $100 per person and
can be gotten by calling Dian
Wilkins, Alzheimer's executive
director, 540-2607.
FASHIONS FROM the world
over, daytime and evening, will
be highlighted when Moheba
Jordan of Couture Boutique, Or-
chard Lake Rd., puts on her
"Elle Mode" personal "Haute
Couture" elegant and sophisti-
cated collection, Dec. 12, at
Fairlane Manor, Dearborn ...
Cocktails 6:30, dinner and show
7:15 ... Reservations and tic-
kets by calling her at Couture
Boutique, 553-3265.
LIKE DAUGHTER . . . like
mother ... as Muriel Jacobs fol-
lows "in the footsteps" of her
very proud daughter, Janice
Platt, who was an award-
winning needlepointer at An-
dover High some years back ...
Both love colors ... and do
quilting ... but Janice says,
"Mom is so much more creative
than me" ... and Muriel goes to
fleamarkets and buys old
neckties, antique buttons and
lace to do her unusual craft ...
crazy quilting.
She recently had a piece ex-
hibited at Summit Place Mall in
juried exhibit ... but has had
two works accepted at the show
by Detroit Gallery of Contem-
porary Crafts in Fisher Building
... Little wonder Muriel's fam-
ily is so proud of her.
SHADES OF OUR old friend
of yesteryears, the late Sam Di-
ctor ... This is how Sam's and
Lil's son, Larry, has turned out
to be ... He lives in. Los
Angeles and was here on busi-

ness ... Dr. Abe Pearlman and I
had breakfast with Larry, and
exclaimed wonderment over his
looks, mannerisms and voice
that are so amazingly like those
of Sam ... Lii also lives in Los
Angeles.
CONGRATS ... to Victor
Bernstein ... on his 85th birth-
day ... celebrated by a family
party with his children, grand-
children and two great-grand-
daughters ... He has been with
the Goodfellows 63 years ...
and donated his legal advice to
senior citizens.
LOOKS LIKE YOU'RE tak-
ing steps up to an attic ... but
thos stairs are savings-bound
flights ... into a truly all-
accessory operation ... This is
Ann Wallach's first anniversary
... and theme for her Acces-
sories By Ann at Market Street
Shoppes on Northwestern .
Nothing sold except accessories
... at prices far below the exact
same merchandise selling in top
noted stores ... Ann's every-
thing imagineable brings gals
with outfits for her to "acces-
sorize" ... it's getting to be a
big thing ... and "Ann's Attic"
of accessories is gaining wide

note in the fashion world.

BEST LUNCHEON BET Of
The Week ... Dollars For David
togetherness, 12 noon this Mon-
day at Sutton Place Clubhouse,
Riverside Drive ... Dimona
Chapter, Pioneer Women/
Naamat ... with program by
members of Italian Opera Com-
pany.
SECOND YEAR IN ROW
that The Tennis Co. ... now at
Southfield and 13 Mile, will
help make holidays happy for
kids of Oakland County's Big
Brothers-Big Sisters ... It'll do-
nate tennis racquets at group's
annual Holiday Party, Dec. 15
... Last year's large response
enabled The Tennis Co. to in-
troduce sport of tennis to dozens
of youngsters.
Area tennis enthusiasts are
again asked to donate a used
racquet to The Tennis Co. for
reconditioning ... contributors
will receive discount on another
racquet ... Donations are tax
deductible.
Some 275 Oakland County
children are presently enrolled
in the Big Brothers-Big Sisters
program which couples single-
parent children with a caring
adult who can provide compan-
ionship and guidance ... There
are currently about 150 young
boys in need of a Big Brother
... For more about this wonder-
ful program, call John Liles,
area director, 569-0600.
To help The Tennis Co. share
joy of this sport and holiday sea-
son with some worthy kids, con-
tact David Schwartz, 258-9366.
RABBI SAM SILVER of De-
lray Beach, Fla. writes ...
"Have you heard what is New
York's favorite wine? (Whyne we
go to Florida?'MD said to his
patient, 'I can't understand why
you are gaining weight. I put
you on a 600-calorie diet.' Doc-
tor,' she said, 'do you think
you're the only doctor I go to?'
