Jerusalem — A centuries-old
parchment document was found
this week, explaining for the
first time how the Macabees of
ancient Greece were able to pro-
sper financially after reclaiming
the Temple.
According to the text of the
scroll, Judah Macabee wagered
all of the community's funds,
betting that the one-day supply
of Temple oil would last far
longer. The odds were 8-1.
The wager was placed with
the most famous man of his day.!

Bullets Launch Mt. Bol
The Washington Bullets, con-

A local hospital faced a medi-
cal emergency when a 300
pound patient awaiting surgical
insertion of a diet balloon — a
revolutionary procedure in
which a donut-shaped balloori is
inserted in the stomach to pre-
vent overeating — was inaciver-
tently implanted with a
helium-filled mylar baloon.
"We noticed our mistake a:s

geon Dr. Noah Goodnick. "I just
