ST PRIZE, AGES 10-12

David Newman
age 12
Beth Abraham Hillel Moses

Soviet Jewry and the
theme of freedom was
David Newman's topic.
"We get to celebrate
Chanukah, but Soviet
Jews can't," David told
The Jewish News.
David's brother
twinned his Bar Mitzvah
last March with a Soviet
Jew, and the subject was
fresh in David's mind
when he chose his theme.
He has not done a lot
of drawing in the past,
but completed an art
class at Orchard Lake
Middle School during the
first report card marking
period this fall. The class
helped, he said, and I
took a lot of time
working on my entry."
