AJCampaign Events
Precede Dec. 17 Opening

The 1986 Allied Jewish Cam-
paign is moving ahead at every
level in anticipation of a Cam-
paign kick off celebration Dec. 17,
featuring Pulitzer Prize-winning
journalist George Will.
The Business and Professional
Women of the Jewish Welfare
Federation will sponsor an ad-
vance gifts dinner at 6 p.m. Tues-
day at the home of Linda Klein.
John Loftus, Justice Depart-
ment attorney who investigated
the Nazi connection in the U.S.,
will be the division's guest
speaker. Since writing The Be-
larus Secret, an account of the
Nazi smuggling programs in
America, Loftus has sold the
rights to a major motion picture
company, which will use the story
as a television mini-series.
Two days later, the Young
Adult Division men's leadership
will hold a cocktail reception at
6:30 p.m. Thursday at the home of
Philip and Amy Fisher. Com-
munal leader David Mondry will
address the division.
B and P Women also will hold a
$100 section meeting with Israeli
broadcaster Freda Keet at the
home of Shirley Loewenthal Dec.
12. Born in Rhodesia, Keet is con-
sidered one of Israel's most
knowledgeable authorities on its
role in Africa.
Another event set for Dec. 17 is
the YAD Women's 'Campaign
cocktail reception. Set for 8 p.m.
at Cong. Shaarey Zedek, the eve-
ning will feature Lily Nesher, a
member of Israel's Foreign Minis-
try who illegally escaped from the

Lily Nesher

Soviet Union in 1946.
These events will all lead up to
the dinner with George Will for
contributors of $2,500 and over.
Set for Adat Shalom Synagogue,
the evening will begin with
cocktails at 6:15 p.m.
Will, whose insightful commen-
tary is heard regularly on ABC's
"This Week with David
Brinkley," is a regular columnist
for Newsweek Magazine.
A syndicated columnist in over
400 newspapers, Will's columns
have been published in a collec-
tion by Harper Row called, The
Pursuit of Happiness and Other
Sobering Thoughts, and in a sec-
ond collection published by Simon
and Schuster, entitled The Pur-
suit of Virtue and Other Tory No-
tions.
The meeting will signal the
start of an intensive period of
mobilization with meetings
scheduled for all Campaign di-
visions by the end of the year.
