Women's Unit
To Hear Wine

The Jewish Welfare Federation
Women's Division "First Monday
Group" fall series concludes with
Rabbi Sherwin Wine speaking on
"Religious Fundamentalism" at
8:45 a.m. Monday at the United
Hebrew Schools' Adolph Deutsch
Building in Southfield.
The First Monday Group pro-
gram schedule will resume in
March.
Ordained at Hebrew Union Col-
lege, Wine served at Temple Beth
El in Windsor before founding the
Birmingham Temple in 1963.
Under his direction, the Birming-
ham Temple became the first con-
gregation in the country to adopt
the philosophy of Humanistic
Judaism.
Founder and chairman of the
Conference on Liberal Religion,
Wine is founder of the Society for
Humanistic Judaism, a national
organization with 15 branches
throughout North America.
The "First Monday Group" is
organized by the social awareness
committee of the Women's Di-
vision. The program brings to-
gether women who wish to share
ideas on issues of personal, com-
munity and national concern. It
features an informal discussion-
group format; a light breakfast is
included.
Helen Shevin is chairman of the
social awareness committee; Be-
verly Baker is associate chair-
man. There is no charge for the

meeting, but reservations are re-

Sephardim Plan
Chanukah Party

The Sephardic Community of
Greater Detroit will hold its an-
nual Chanukah party at 3 p.m.
Sunday at the Zionist Cultural
Center.
Entertainment will be provided
by Adam Brode and his band "X-
It." Marghan Banooni will teach
Persian dancing.
A talent show will be presented
by Mary Koukhab, Amy Brode,
Mike Khamzadeh, Gabriel Bol-
kosky, Miriam Bolkosky, Rachel
Petosky, Anneke Adler, Jineene
Adler, Odin Ozdil, Shasha Sklar,
Willow Sklar, Gary Sklar, Shirley
Behar and Adam Brode.
Refreshments will be served.
There will be prizes, dreidels,
dancing, contests and a
candlelighting. Guests are re-
quested to bring a $2 value grab
bag gift to exchange. Admission is
free.
President David Chicorel, Livia
Katan, Gilbert Senor are on the
refreshment committee.
The Sephardic Community of
Detroit was founded in 1917 by
Jacob Chicorel of Izmir, Turkey.
High Holiday services are con-
ducted at the Zionist Cultural
Center by Salvatore Katan and
Albert Hazan. Members of the
community come from Greece,
Egypt, Turkey, Iran, Israel, Iraq,
Afghanistan, South America,
Cuba, Italy, France and Morocco.
