It is a command, a mitzvah. The Creator says no. And he who gives life must be obeyed. Re: fire, it follows clearly that we may not drive a car on the Sab- bath. Answering a telephone is prohibited, for our rabbis have de- cided that electricity is a form of fire. Thep'sak halachah, the legal decision, finally made is -binding . . .Sociologically, I would like to see the acceptance of the Ethopian Jew as a full member of the Jewish people. Halachically speaking — that is, according to generally accepted Jewish law — the Ethiopian Jew must undergo a form of conversion. In a democ- racy, I would like to get first aliyah when I am called to the To- rah. Regretfully, I am not a Ko- hain and am thus ineligible ac- cording to Halachah. We are bound by accepted halachah which comes from the root word "to go." Halachah is our way of life — from birth to death, waking to sleep. We are voluntarily bound by God's everlasting and immut- able law .. . Our Torah life is rich beyond understanding of those who do not partake.
