ome nice guys might finish last.
But not Sol Cogan. He almost
always finishes first. And this
year he wants to do that enough to
become the top high school wrestler in
his weight class in Michigan.
"My senior year I'm looking to be a
three-time league champion, Oakland -
County champion, to win the districts,
regionals and state championship,"
the Southfield Lathrup High School .
senior said, outlining his current goals
at the end of a long day recently that
included weightlifting, running,
school, a part-time job, and homework.
But wait, there's more.
"For the future," he continued,
"I'd like to wrestle in college and hope-
fully get a scholarship somewhere, get
a good education and win a national
title."
Pretty lofty ambitions for a 112-
pound 17-year old. But if anyone can
achieve those goals it's Cogan, his
coach, Eric Kopsch and his mother,
Sandra Cogan, insist.
"He's very self disciplined," said
Kopsch. "In all my 28 years of wrestl-
ing he is the hardest worker I've ever
seen getting ready for a sport. He's
