came to Paris 15 years ago and
opened the restaurant . . . his first
such venture.
It seats 100, is quite exclusive
and yet has reasonable prices .. .
Coming into the Charly De Bab-
EI-Oued Restaurant, customers
are surrounded by fountains sp-
outing colored water and a verita-
ble sea of marble all around .. .
Even the tables are marble .. .
Chairs are covered with a highly
distinctive velour . . . and African
music quietly offers background
rhythms.
Charly De Bab-El-Oued is
noted for its excellent food and
service . . . famous for the serving
of couscous, a wheat mixture of
vegetables, chick peas, chicken,
lamb and kafta (chopped meat)
with a bit of hot sauce . . . (There
are seven varieties).
Leah and Terese tell of having
this great dish . . . plus tagin,
lamb cooked with prunes, onions
and almonds . . . With the meal
they enjoyed a delicate red Alge-
rian wine.
Dessert consisted of four differ-
ent cakes . . . baklava, rihba (very
soft, made with oil, flour, eggs and
sugar), Morroccan sbagia (flour
and honey) and sesame cake with
topping of melted brown sugar .. .
The dining adventure was com-
plete when Morroccan tea with
mint was served as its finale .. .
accompanied by a varied selection
of candies.
The blue and white decor at
Charly De Bab-El-Oued is gra-
cious elegance . . . with almost
entire restaurant made of marble
tile . . . floors and walls . . . From
the ceiling hang chandeliers
shaped like Morroccan tents.
Many visitors from the United
States join Leah and Terese in
their acclaim of Paris' Charly De
Bab-El-Oued Restaurant.
TURK PRUJAN, songwriter,
master of ceremonies, a show biz
entrepreneur, etc., writes from
Los Angeles, Calif. . . . The former
Detroiter is master of Saints &
Sinners group there . . . "We are
raising funds to open another
wing for the mentally retarded
children at Gateways Hospital.
Since 1931, we have raised over
$3 million and have over 1,800
members.
"Our testimonial to Dick Con-
tino, the great accordionist, is
Dec. 3, 7:30. Admission of $5 in-
cludes lox, cheese, bagels and cof-
fee. If anyone is out this way and
wants to attend, have them call
me (213) 654-9418.
"Our three-day, two-night Las
Vegas Fun Tour is Jan. 12. $79
per person from here includes
round trip Greyhound bus, two
nights at Flamingo Hilton Hotel,
welcome dinner by Las Vegas
Saints & Sinners on Sunday, buf-
fet breakfast Monday, buffet
luncheon Monday and buffet
dinner Monday. I can be called for
this also."

chestra, with Stephen Stein con-
