Jaffe Criticized

Your Arthur Magida is a fine
writer, and I gather from him
that Rona Jaffe is a fine writer
as well. But can you tell me
why this purveyor of salacious-
ness and licentiousness deserves
seven columns (Nov. 8) in a
paper which has the word
Jewish in its title?
I'd also be curious to know
why the author of this
Radcliffe-hanger merits an, ap-
pearance at a book fair called
Jewish.
If Miss Jaffe is a biological
Jew, she would, it seems to_ me,
merit one sentence in a Jewish
newspaper. The sentence would
be something like this: What a
pity that a Jewish woman would
lend her talent to the dissemi-
nation of smut.

Tel Aviv (JTA) — Several
hundred people, many of them
wearing black masks, marched
from city hall to the South Afri-
can Embassy last Wednesday to
protest against apartheid. The
demonstration was organized by
Abie Nathan, who operates the
"Voice of Peace" radio ship just
outside Israeli territorial waters.
Nathan presented the South
African Amb-assador with a let-
ter condemnng apaftheid and
urging the Pretoria government
to negotiate with the African
National Congress. Nathan then
went to Ben-Gurion Airport, (
where, according to reports, Is-
rael's new Ambassador to South
Africa, David Ariel was about to
leave for his post.
