pursue their quest to find the
gifts they like best for
Chanukah. With ohs and ahs,
they explore the assortment on
the shelves and pick out an
adorable stuffed cotton doggie, a
special clutch ball, along with
other fascinating playthings.
They are tickled with their

Spring Is Here
At Last

How daintily Spring walks,
how wondrous her powers!
How gently the rain falls,
how melodious her showers!
For the time is ripe
for the buds to flower,
The grass to grow,
the trees to color,
Affirming again
the coming of Summer.
The streams awake
with rhythmic sounds,
The sun is red
and warmth abounds,
And robins sing.
And so it is
when hope is shorn,
That left us cold,
bereft and worn.
A ray of sunshine
parts the cloud,
It brings us hope
'tis Spring reborn.

Child-Like Pleasure

Their eyes are wide and shin-
ing with delight as they view
the crowded shelves with magi-
cal toys that capture the joys
and wonders of childhood. They
find colors so resplendent, dis-
plays so appealing, variety so
overwhelming, that excitement
quickens their imagination and
they gaze unbelievably.
They are caught in the marvel
of the holiday spirit. The trans-
parency of their feelings is ap-

BY LEO GROSSMAN

Many of us feel defeated by
the problems, cares, difficulties
of human existence, struggling
through our days with a sense of
defeatabout the "bad breaks"
life has given us.
There is also a spirit and
method by which we can control
these hard knocks, and should
not be discouraged. We must be
calm and try to work things out
with a little planning; but the
key is to believe in ourselves.
The greatest secret for defeat-
ing these setbacks is to fill our
minds with faith in God and in
ourselves. By keeping very
active and busy, helping out
someone who might really be in
need, we find happiness within
ourselves.

A Working Mind

My thoughts may coincide
with those of some other people.
Sometimes I am doing a chore
or I sit in a chair for a breather,
so to speak, and my mind begins
to ponder on many things.
I think of some people I met
the day before and reaffirmed a
friendship. That group meeting
afforded me an opportunity to
meet someone I knew and it was
such a good feeling.
As I continue the chore or
breather, I think of the day or
week ahead and about some new
experiences I would like. My
mind is occupied with positive
thinking and accomplishment
and it is a good preparation for
things to come.
