names. "That way you could
say, "We were wiped out by
Manny Shapiro last night. What
a disaster.' "

Jewish Group Asks
F or 'Hurricane Phil'
First it was female names ex-
clusively. Then came male
names as well. Now the Na-
tional Weather Service is being
petitioned to incude Jewish
names in identifying hurricanes.
"We feel that since we repre-
sent almost three percent of the
U.S. population, we should have
at least a few Jewish hur-
ricanes," said Mr. Masheev H.
Ruach, spokesman for an ad hoc
group representing the ADL

(All Jewish Claimants) and the
JWB (Jews Without Brains). He
added that since most hur-
ricanes take place on the East
Coast, where Jews are more
heavily represented, it would be
proper for at least one in every
`, -.en hurricanes to have a dis-
tinctly Jewish name.
"The truth is that some names
• just sound more natural for a
hurricane than others," Ruach
told a crowded press conference
`,in Miami. "The female names
happen to sound right, for the
most part. Like, most recently,
Gloria. That was fine. But to
have your basement flooded by
Hurricane Todd or Bruce is just
embarrassing.
