A grant from the Anna and
Meyer L. Prentis Foundation,
HUD funds and seed money
from the Jewish Welfare Feder-
ation provided funding for a sec-
ond building. A 100-unit facility
was added to the Oak Park site.
Linking the Apartments is an
epicenter housing a central
lobby, dining and community
rooms, and administrative
offices. Ground breaking was
Nov. 19, 1978. Again applica-
tions exceeded available space.
In continuing response to the
demand for apartments and
with an endowment from Lillian
and Samuel Hechtman an addi-
tional facility was built in West
Bloomfield. The 103-unit build-
ing is on the Jewish Community
Campus on Maple and Drake
Roads. -
The campus includes the
Jewish Community Center,
Fleischman Residence and
Blumberg Plaza. Joint commu-
nity planning by the Jewish
Federation Apartments, Jewish
Welfare Federation, Jewish
Community Center, and the
Jewish Home for Aged, sup-
ported a co-operative venture
between government and pri-
vate non-profit organizations.
The building, also, was fully
occupied upon its opening.
The anniversary celebration
will honor benefactors,
presidents and board members,
past and present. There will be
a short formal program. The
formal announcement of the re-
ceipt of a HUD Fund Reserva-
tion for additional housing will
be made.

Menachem Perlmutter, the
Jewish Agency's director of the
engineering section of the de-
partment of settlements for the
Negev, will speak at the Jewish
National Fund annual meeting
on Tuesday at Cong. B'nai
David at 8 p.m.
A survivor of Auschwitz who
came to Israel in April 1947,
Perlmutter is responsible for
overseeing the engineering in-
frastructure of all the rural set-
tlements in the Negev, Israel's
largest area. Creating settle-
ments involves reclaiming the
land and paving roads, as well
as installing electricity, tele-
phone lines, and water
pipelines, projects assisted by
JNF.
