Disease Studied
At Sinai Hospital

OPEN 7 DAYS

Dr. Chaim Brickman, director
of clinical immunology at Sinai
Hospital of Detroit, is initiating
a clinic and research program to
investigate the occurrence of
familial Mediterranean fever
among the Detroit ethnic com-
munities.
This inherited disease occurs
predominantly in persons of
Mediterranean or Middle East
origin. Armenians, Arabs, and
Sephardic Jews are particularly
affected.
Familial Mediterranean fever
is characterized by acute, recur-
rent attacks of fever, abdominal
or chest inflammation, and/or
arthritis. There are presently no
tests to diagnose the disease,
consequently, many people with
this disorder are misdiagnosed.
Persons who have had symp-
toms characteristic of Familial
Mediterranean fever and who
wish to participate in the study,
can call Dr. Brickman, 493-
5177. Participants in the study
will receive care at a reduced
fee.
