from Detroit as a delegate to the
Michigan Constitutional Con-
vention and helped write the
present Michigan Constitution.
He authored provisions pro-
hibiting racial and religious dis-
crimination, creating "a freedom
of expression" and creating a
right of appeal in a criminal
case. He is the co-author of Ar-
ticle V, Section 29 creating the
Michigan Civil Rights Commis-
sion.
Prof. Norris is entering his
25th year at the Detroit College
of Law teaching constitutional
law, criminal law, and women
and the law. For many years
Prof. Norris has been a vice
president of the American
Jewish Congress, a member of
the executive committee of the
Jewish Community Council of
Detroit, a member of the cabinet
of the Anti-Defamation League
and the Jewish Historical
Society.

Dennis Archer, president of
the State Bar of Michigan, pre-
sented a gold plaque to Detroit
College of Law Prof. Harold
Norris, during the 50th anniver-
sary convention of the Michigan
State Bar Association "in appre-
ciation for the professor's many
contributions to the legal profes-
sion."
The award was occasioned by
the publication of Prof. Morris'
three-volume collection of 40
years of writings on "Law,
Lawyers, and the Bill of Rights."
He also is the author of Mr. Jus-
tice Murphy and the Bill of
Rights, A Casebook of Complete
Criminal Trials, and Cases on
Criminal Justice.
In his work for the State Bar,
Prof. Norris pioneered programs
for pre-paid legal insurance,
compulsory liability insurance,
fair employment practices legis-
lation and Social Security for
lawyers.
In 1961, Norris was elected

Detroiters Marjorie and Leslie Rose recently dedicated a library in
Ramla, Israel in memory of his parents, Edward and Lillian Rose.
The Roses were participating in a United Jewish Appeal Mission
and made the library endowment through Detroit's United Jewish
Charities.
