School Blast
Tel Aviv (JTA) — A small
bomb exploded near a high
school in Afula Sunday but did
not cause any casualties or
damage. It was timed to go off
at noon, as pupils were leaving
the school for their midday
break, but because of an appar-
ent faulty timing mechanism in
the home-made bomb, it went
off 20 minutes earlier when the
playground was empty. Police
said it was the fifth terrorist
bombing attempt in Afula in re-
cent weeks.
In another terrorist incident,
several Katyusha rockets were
fired into the Galilee panhandle
Saturday night. There were no
casualties. Police and security
forces searched the area this
week to determine the point of
origin of the rockets.

CHICKEN FRICASSEE
New York (JTA) — Former
U.s. Ambassador to the United
Nations, Jeane Kirkpatrick and
Operation Moses, the rescue
mission that brought 10,000
Ethiopian Jews to Israel, were
co-receipients last week of the
1985 Jabotinsky Award at a
ceremony at the headquarters of
the Federation of Jewish
Philanthropies.
The $100,000 award, estab-
lished in 1983, is given for ex-
traordinary efforts in "defense of
the rights of the Jewish people."
Eryk Spektor, chairman of the
Jabotinsky foundation an-
nounced that the $50,000 part of
the award given to Operation
Moses will be used to create 50
Jabotinsky scholarships for
Ethiopian Jews in Israel.
