Frank J. Kelley will receive Is-
rael's Eleanor Roosevelt
Humanities Medal at a dinner
sponsored by the Metro Detroit
Attorneys Division for State of
Israel Bonds at 6:30 p.m. Nov.
17 at Adat Shalom Synagogue.
Guest speaker will be U.S.
Sen. Edward M. ("Ted") Ken-
nedy (D-Mass.). Gov. James J.
Blanchard, honorary chairman
of the dinner, will make the
award presentation to Kelley on
behalf of Israel Bonds.
Honorary co-chairmen are
Michigan Secretary of State
Richard H. Austin; Michigan
Supreme Court Chief Justice G.
Mennen Williams and Justice
James Brickley; Michigan Court
of Appeals Chief Justice Robert
J. Danhoff; Lt. Gov. Martha
Griffiths; Gov. William G. Mil-
liken; U.S. Sens. Carl M. Levin
and Donald W. Riegle; and De-
troit Mayor Coleman A. Young.
Dinner chairman is Stratton
S. Brown. Associate chairmen
are Lawrence Owen; Faylene
Curtis, director, Governor's Spe-
cial Projects; and Stanley Stein-
born, chief assistant attorney
general.
Michigan's 50th attorney gen-
eral, Kelley was born and raised
in Detroit, and attended the
University of Detroit, where he
earned his undergraduate and
law degrees.
For the next three years, Kel-
ley practiced corporation law in
Detroit, and then moved to
Alpena, where he practiced gen-
eral law and served as city at-
torney and county supervisor.
While living in Alpena, he held
many civic and community
organization posts and taught
economics and law at North-
western Michigan Community
College and the University of
Michigan.
He was appointed attorney
general on Jan. 2, 1962, and
was elected to a full term in
November of that year. He has

He is the only Michigan at-
torney general to be elected
president of the National Asso-
ciation of Attorneys General.
