Born in Chicago, Ill., Mr. Hopp was a realtor for more than 50 years. In World War I, he enlisted in the aviation branch of the U.S. Army and served with the 502nd Aero Squadron. He joined Temple Beth El in 1932 and has since served the temple in many capacities. In 1952, he co-chaired a survey committee of the temple to dis- cuss the development of addi- tional facilities for temple mem- bers in northwest Detroit. Mr. Hopp was president of the tem- ple from 1957 to 1959. The River Terrace on East Jefferson, the Cumberland Apts. in Palmer Park and Huntington Gardens in Oak Park are man- aged by his firm. He leaves a son, John C., Jr.; a daughter, Mrs. Lois Mark of New York; a brother, Clement; a sister, Mrs. Pauline Moses; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Ben Teitel Ben Teitel, a builder, de- veloper and owner of Lake Crest Towers Resort in South Haven from 1967 to 1985, died Nov. 4 at age 67. A native Detroiter, Mr. Teitel developed properties in Muske- gon, Norton Shores and St. Joseph. His 77-foot yacht, "Touch of Class," was used in the pilot for the television show, Miami Vice. He leaves a son, Robert; a sis- ter, Jeanette Cook; nieces and nephews. Dr. Joseph Cochin Dr. Joseph Cochin, a former Detroiter and professor of phar- macology and psychiatry at Bos- ton University School of Medicine, died Oct. 20 at age 69. Dr. Cochin was an authority on drug addiction and pain con- trol. He was a consultant to the National Institutes of Mental Health and Drug Abuse. He earned a bachelor's degree and teaching certificate at Wayne State University and his doctorate in pharmacology from the University of Michigan Med- ical School. Before joining the faculty at Boston University School of Medicine in 1962, Dr. Cochin was senior surgeon in the analgesics section of the Na- tional Institutes of Arthritis and Metabolic Diseases in Bethesda, Md. Dr. Cochin was affiliated with the American Society for Phar- macology and Experimental Therapeutics and was field editor in analgesia and drug abuse for the the organization's journal. He is survived by his wife, Renee; three sons Joshua M. of Paris; Joel D. of Lexington, Mass., and Jesse of Boston; and a sister, Judith Avrunin of. Haifa, Israel. Max Chicorel Max Chicorel, former owner of Bedland, died Nov. 2 at age 69. Born in Greece, Mr. Chicorel lived in Detroit for many years prior to moving to Pompano Be- ach, Fla. He was a member of B'nai B'rith, Furniture Club of Detroit, Knollwood Country Club, Perfection Lodge of the Masons, Sephardic Community of Greater Detroit and was a charter member of Tam O'Shanter County Club. A graduate of Wayne State University, Mr. Chicorel won numerous awards in golf and bowling. He leaves his wife, Ethel; a son, Marc of Southfield; two daughters, Gail Shapiro of Bloomfield Hills and Shelley Tauber of Bloomfield Hills; three brothers, Albert, David of Southfield and Ralph of Wiscon- sin; a sister, Mrs. Shirley Behar of Southfield; and seven grand- children. Interment Detroit. Phil Silvers Dies Los Angeles — Comedian Phil Silvers, a vaudeville singer who worked his way into movies and television, died Nov. 1 at age 74. Born Philip Silversmith in Brooklyn, Mr. Silvers earned fame in his TV role of Master Sgt. Ernie Bilko in The Phil Silvers Show in the 1950s. His film credits include Hit Parade of 1941, It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. On Broadway, he appeared in High Button Shoes and in a Broadway and film fea- ture, Top Banana. He won three Emmy awards for his TV series. Confidence Jerusalem (ZINS) — Deposits in Israeli banks by Jews living abroad dropped only $700 mil- lion during the height of Israel's economic woes last year. Israeli banks report that they now have $6 billion in foreign accounts.
