Essays should be typed, double-spaced and submitted to the students' day or Hebrew school by Dec. 5. The Jewish News will select some of the winning entries for publication. The contest is being conducted in conjunction with former Soviet prisoner of conscience Yosef Mendelevich's visit to De- troit. Theme of the contest is the plight of the refuseniks. Entrants may write on one of the following categories: Elementary students: Write a short letter to a refusenik fam- ily about yourself, family and studies without references to politics or immigration. All other students: • What do the Helsinki Ac- cords and the Universal Dec- laration of Human Rights prom- ise?
