consider his ideas in a public
forum.
"(Israeli Prime Minister Shi-
mon) Peres will fly to Jordan to
meet (King) Hussein, but he
won't sit down with Kahane,"
the extremist Knesset member
told an audience of about 150 at
the Southfield Hilton Hotel.
"Peres denounces me as the
greatest danger to Israel. I
would imagine Syria might pose
more of a threat."
Jewish communal leaders in
Detroit were singled out by
Kahane as well. At a press con-
ference prior to the speech, the
MK called the Jewish Welfare
Federation of Metropolitan De-
troit "nothing but a bunch of
pygmies and dwarfs" for locking
him out of the Federation's
downtown Detroit offices last
Thursday afternoon.
In a' memo sent to the Board
of Governors last week explain-
ing their refusal to meet with
Kahane, Federation President
Joel Tauber and Executive Vice
President Wayne Feinstein said
they decided to close the build-
ing "rather than let him
(Kahane) use our presence for
his own purposes, namely media
exposure."
"He's not interested in debate,
he's interested in a confronta-
tion situation and we will have
nothing to do with that," Feins-
tein told The Jewish News
Tuesday.
Kahane has been locked out of
federation offices in Baltimore

and Miami, in addition to De-
troit, during his current U.S.
speaking tour. His Detroit ap-
pearance was sponsored by the
local chapter. of the Jewish Idea.
The Brooklyn-born MK, who
heads Israel's right-wing Kach
Party, claims that unless Israel
is transformed into an all-
Jewish state, the Arab popula-
tion in the democratic country

Kahane said
Israelis, particularly
the Sephardim, are
more receptive to his
philosophy. "I don't
have problems
getting my views
across except when
the leftists . . . come
in and try to break
up our rallies.

will eventually gain majority
status. This is due largely to the
difference in Jewish and Arab
birthrates, according to Kahane.
But the policies of Israeli lead-
ers are contributing to the prob-
lem — promoting intermarriage
and assimilation between the
two groups, Kahane said Thurs-
day.
He cited programs promoted
by the Ministry of Education as
one example of leaders who are
"hopelessly misguided" in their
thinking. "They have instituted
