Mr. Spitz was a founding member of Temple Israel, and was a member of Perfection Lodge of the Masons, the Shrin- ers, Tam O'Shanter Country Club and the Turnberry Yacht and Golf Club in Florida. He was awarded the Silver Star in World War II for routing a German patrol near Nor- mandy, France, and was also awarded a Purple Heart. He leaves a son, Martin B.; two daughters, Mrs. Judith S. Slotkin and Mrs. Diane Raphael of Connecticut; a brother, Sid- ney; and four grandchildren. Morton Kiefer Morton Kiefer, secretary- treasurer of Federal Pipe and Supply Co., died Oct. 25 at age 69. Born in Minneapolis, Minn., Mr. Kiefer was a member of Temple Beth El, Perfection Lodge of the Masons and former member of Knollwood Country Club. He was the former president of Federal Pipe and Steel Corp., which was acquired by Sun Co. in 1980. He leaves his wife, Jeanne; a son, Paul; two daughters, Terry of Philadelphia, Pa., and Mrs. Connie Robins of Columbus, Ohio; a brother, Lex of Los Angeles, Calif.; two sisters Mrs. Lea Zox Goldman of Columbus and Mrs. Louis Knee of Los Angeles; and six grandchildren. Lillian Smith Lillian Sarah Smith, first president of the Shaarey Zedek Sisterhood, died Oct.. 27 at age 92. Born in Toledo, Ohio, Mrs. Smith was a past president of the United Hebrew Schools Aux- iliary, member of the National Council of Jewish Women, Sinai Hospital Guild and Hadassah. She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Burton I. (Beatrice) Grossman of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mrs. Alvin G. (June) Rosen of Chicago, Ill.; seven grand- children, seven great-grand- children and one great-great- grandson. Diana Samson • • / 1\ ), Diana S. Samson, a member of Jewish communal organiza- tions, died Oct. 24 at age 72. Born in Detroit, Mrs. Samson was a member of the Jewish Home for Aged Auxiliary, Hadassah and the Jewish Na- tional Fund. She leaves her husband, Leo; „ q. s on, Dr. Michael; a daughter, \ Irs. Michael (Barbara) Sitrin of Giicago, Ill.; two brothers, Mil- ton Singer and Dr. Nelson Singer; two sisters, Mrs. Anne Paul and Mrs. Rhea Tuttleman of Florida; and four grand- children. Announces the unveil- ing of a monument in her memory at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, at Machpelah Cemetery. Rabbi Lane Steinger will officiate. Relatives and friends are asked to attend.
