Prosecutor To Speak
The Sisterhood of Temple
Beth El will hold its annual
dinner on Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. at
the temple.
Guest speaker L. Brooks Pat-
terson, Oakland County pro-
secutor, will speak on "Capital
Punishment."
Patterson was elected pro-
secutor of Oakland County in
November 1972. Since then he
has been re-elected to that posi-
tion in every succeeding elec-
tion.
Prior to 1972, he was trial
lawyer in both the civil and
criminal practices of law. Dur-
ing his 12 years as prosecutor,
Patterson has been a frequent
speaker and writer on many is-
sues of concern to the public. He
issued a 140-page report detail-
ing the abuses of the welfare
system in 1973. During the next
two years, he published both a
handbook for school adminis-
trators, which is now being cir-
culated in 42 states, and a pro-
secutor's advisory on child
molesting.
In 1978, Patterson led a
statewide petition drive to re-
form the Michigan parole sys-
tem. He led a second statewide
petition drive in 1982 to
reinstate capital punishment in
L. Brooks Patterson
the State of Michigan for crimes
of murder.
Dinner will be served. There
is a fee.
Checks should be made pay-
able to Temple Beth El and
mailed to the temple, 7400
Telegraph, Birmingham 48010,
attention: Selma Goldstone,
Shirley Burnett or Shirley
Hirsch, chairpersons. All are
welcome. For details, call the
temple, 851-1100.
