sian rettifienik lying in Lenin-
grad: ,
The Bronshtein family has
been hindered in . its emigration
attempts due to custody prob-
lems with Mrs: Bronshtein's son
from a previous marriage. Even
though the boy has choosen to
live with this familY, rather
than his natural father who
never visits- him, a Leningrad
court has removed parental cus-
tody from them.
The Bronshteins were
threatened with the loss of their
child, their exit visa was denied
and Irina's :father was illegally
demoted from his engineering
position: ,
...While residing in Leningrad,
Bronshtein a prominent activist,
informs many other refuseniks
of their legal 'rights concerning
emigration:

Bukhman, the daughter of Aron
and Lea Bukhman of Kiev,
USSR.
Bukhman's request for emig-
ration to. Israel was refused on
May -20, 1974.' The official rea-
son being given was his prev-
ious service' as an army
sergeant, with the possible pos-
session of-military informaton
even though he completed, his
service, 16. years ago.. Both
Bukhmans, lost their jobs and
have been destitute since 1974.
The ,Bukhmans have been
threatened with severe reprisals
if they .do not desist in. their ef-
forts to emigrate. Diana had
been refUsed'place in kindergar-
ten because of the family's
status.
Randi and Jennifer have writ-
ten severallimes to Diana but
have received-. no replies. They
will attenipt to .contact the fam-
ily by telephone' and will send
congratulatory wishes L to their
relatives in,Israel.
