The American Wonien for
Bar-Ilan 'University, Detroit
Chapter, will hold their annual
fall "Breakfast with Bar-Ilan"
meeting on Na. 6 at 9:30 a.m.
in the Bloomfield Hills home of
Jo Berman, announced Barbara
Stollman, president, and Linda
Lee, vice president-
programming.
The guest performer will be
Assen Vassilev,- bass-baritone,
and a former member of the Is-
rael National Opera. Vassilev
has performed and has recorded
extensively in both Western and
Eastern Europe, in Israel, and
in the United States.
Vassilev is the youngest in a
long line of Bulgarian basses.
He was graduated from the Bul-
garian. State Conservatoire,
where he studied with Mihail
Popov. He continued his studies
with Frederic Anspach in Bel-
gium•nd Rafaele Arie in Israel.
In 1975, he won first prize at
the Fourth International Opera
Competition in Skopje, Yugos-
lavia. He also won the special
prize at the 22nd International
Singing Competition in Holland.
Vaasilev Was 'awaided'a gold
medal in 1977 by Dutch televi-

.

He made his stage '.-debut as
Mephistopholes in Faust in Bel-
fast. From 1979 to 1982, Vas
silev was the leading bass-
baritone at' the Israel National
Opera.
