United Nations (JTA)
An
krab-sponsored move to suspend
[srael from the United Nations
3eneral -Assembly by denying
ts credentials was thwarted last
week. The vote against the Arab
move was 80-41 with 20 absten-
Aons.
This is the fourth consecutive
mar in which the Arab coun-
;ries have tried to deny the cm-
lentials of Israel to the General
Assembly. Israel's credentials
ire brought up for approval be-
;ore the General Assembly along
with 120 other member states.
The amendment was co-
Tonsored by .18 Arab states.
Three Arab League countries,
Egypt, Jordan and Oman, did
not co-sponsor the resolution.
At a press converence after
;he Arab move was rejected, Is -
!eel's Ambassador to the U.N.,
Binyamin Netanyahu, described
he result as a "significant de-
eat for the Arab bloc" which
wanted to deny. Israel's creden:
;kis as a "prelude to its expul-
lion" from the United Nations,
