Service Planned
Beginning this fall and con-
: tinuing through the winter,
Rabbi Sherman P. Kirshner of
Cong. B'nai Israel of West
Bloomfield will conduct Hay-
Clalah services on the last
Saturday evening of the month.
The traditional Havdalah
• service will be recited, after
which the rabbi will relate a
short story to the children,
raeli and Chasidic songs will be
, sung, and refreshments will be
served. The B'nai Israel family
is invited. •
The first Havdalah service
will take place at the home of
Dr. and. Mrs. Jerald Gach, 5385

Israel Joins
NASA Project
• Tel Aviv (JTA) — Israel's link
in a global laser tracking sta-
tion that gathers scientific data
about the earth was dedicated
last week at Bar Giora, south-
west of Jerusalem. It is to be
operated in conjunction with the
U.S. National •Aeronautics and
Space Agency (NASA). . • '
Each station in the global
network fires laser beams at an
orbiting satellite. The beams
ounce back to earth and from •
hem it is possible, among other
things,-to gain data on the speed ..
of the earth's axial rotation,
changes in its 'gravitational and
electro-magnetic fields and the
movement -of the earth's crust-
plate tectonics. Repeated meas-
urements of returning beams
could indicate tectonic activity
and thereby help predict earth-
quakes.
