' BY HEIDI PRESS Local News Editor HOWARD COSELL I Never Played The Game • RONA JAFFEE CHARLES SILBERMAN - Class Reunion • Innovation will be the theme of the 34th annual Jewish Book Fair to be held Nov. 9-17 at, the main Jewish Community Center. For the first time in its history, the book fair will accommodate the hearing impaired by providing an oral lip-reading interpreter and a sign language, total communication interpreter. Persons interested in taking advantage of either service should call. the book fair office, 661- 1000, ext. 275 or 541-7218 .(TDD/ voice) by Nov. 4. Another innovation will be the co-sponsoring of a talk by a non- Jewish organization. The Ecumeni cal Institute for Jewish-Christian Studies, under the direction of Rev. James R. Lyons,• will participate for the first time in_ the book fair 'this year. Children will benefit from a new item on the book fair agenda. A creative writing workshop, sponsored by the children's department of the book fair, will be conducted by author Riki Levinson. Following is a day-by-day book fair schedule: - A Certain People CHAIM POTOK Davita's Harp SATURDAY, NOV. 9 Sports commentator Howard Cosell will 'open tha book fair at 8 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Center. Cosell the author- of-I. Never Played 'the Game. He has spent 32-- - Fears sports journalism and his most re. cent position was as a sports color commentator for ABC Sports. Hear- ing impaired service will be avail- ably for the Cosell talk. SUNDAY, NOV. 10 • Arlene Kushner, author of Falasha No More will speak at 10 . a.m. Nov. 10, sponsored by the chil- dren's department. Kushner earned a_degree in psychology from Rutgers University -and studied at the Jewish Theological Seminary.. She has worked with Ethiopian immigrants to Israel and is a member of the board of the American Association of Ethiopian Jews. She has "written articles for the New York Times, Outlook,' Jewish Monthly, Baltimore Jewish Times, Jerusalem Post and Reconstruc- tionist. She is the author of Treacherous Journey: Escape From Ethiopia 'and The Ethiopien Jews: Photographs: and Letters. At 1 p.m. Wolf. Blitzer, Wash- ingten correspondent for the Jerusalem Post, will speak at the Canter, sponsored by, the American Jewish Committee, Bliai B'rith Men's and Women's ~Councils and the Anti-Defamation teague of B'nai B'rith: Before coming to Washington, Blitzer was a foreign correspondent in the' Tel Aviv 'btireau of the Reut- ers News Agency.. He ha4 appeared On.American television. The Young People's Theater of Ann. Arbor will entertain at 2 p.m. Nov. 10 and 17 at the ‘Center.
