Levin, who hosted dignitaries and diplomats as well Its-Jewish community lead- ers for many years, died Oct. 17 at age 87. With her husband; the late - Saul R. Levin, who led in youth movements and was Consul of Honduras in Detroit, and her two sons who have gained na- tional roles as members of Con- gress, she welcomed' many dig- nitaries at scores of functions of public concern. Her late brother, David Levinson, was a veteran member of the Oakland County Board of Supervisors. Her brother-in-law, the late Theo- dore Levin, was chief judge of the U.S. District Court in • De- troit. ,Nephew Charles Levin is a Michigan Supreme Court Jus- tice. Mrs. Levin was born in Bir- mingham and had -been a De- troit resident since the early 1900s. She was a graduate of the University of Michigan and taught English at the Interna- tional Institute in Detroit for ' many years. She was active in the Metropolitan Detroit Chap- ter of Hadassah. She is survived by her sons, Senator Carl Levin and Rep. Sander Levin; a daughter, Mrs. Hannah Gladstone; a brother Hy Levinson; and ten grand- , children.
