compatriots at the Community Fair. Thirty Jewish,
organizations and Federation agencies had set up booths
inside Shiffman Hall, distributing literature about programs
and volunteer opportunities for the Jewish community.
The festive atmosphere of the day was heightened at the
Fair by nearly-continuous entertainment on the Shiffman Hall
stage, face painting by the Klassy Klowns, caricature _ s by
Julius Farago, bright blue balloons everywhere, and the
returning walkers in their special T-shirts mingling with the
crowd:
Some 100 communal volunteers planned and carried out
the day's activities, coordinating the booths and entertainment
at the Fair, planning the Walk and its seven checkpoints,
providing refreshments and driving "toe trucks" for those who
could not complete the full 11-mile journey. Walk and Fair
chairman Benjamin Rosenthal credited co-chairpersons Susan
Citrin, Alan Yost and their committees of volunteers for
making the day a huge success.
