grandfather of seven grandchil-
dren ranging in age from 25 years
to eight months. Last year, Max
and his wife, Ruth, renewed their
wedding vows at a double-ring
ceremony at B'nai David to com-
memorate their 50th wedding an-
niversary. The celebration was
given by their children, Dr. and
Mrs. Phillip (Sally) Neuman and
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey (Lizabeth)
Sosin. During the ceremony,
Rabbi Yolkut asked Sosin if he
was sure he wanted to go through
with the ceremony, he paused be-
fore replying "Let me think about
it.
"You don't know when you start
out," Sosin says in regard to the
longevity of his marriage. "It's a
tremendous gamble. But if the
good Lord is kind to you and you
happen to be mated to the point
where you are compatible and to
where you understand each other,
so you go along. If it were a sac-
rifice it never would have been
able to be achieved."

Two ladies meet and one says to
the other, "Sarah, how's your new
husband?" "Terrible. I really fell
in. He's so mean. He beats me, mis-
treats me, aggravates me, tortures
me to death. We've been married
three months and I've lost 15
pounds." "Why don't you divorce
him?" "I want to lose another 5
pounds."

During the interview conducted
at a local restaurant, Sosin was
approached by Mr. and Mrs.
David Penner, friends of the So-
sins for more than 50 years. Pen-
ner described Sosin as "an abso-
lutely beautiful person." When
Sosin pointed out that the conver-
sation was being taped, Penner
added "That's okay, I'll stand by
that." There is no doubt that

Collection Has
Sea Theme

Famous authors, including
Haim Nahman Bialik, Elma
Ehrlich Levinger, Howard Fast,
S. J. Agnon, Y. L. Peretz,
Shalom Asch, Shalom Aleichem
and many others are repre-
sented in the tales included in
Jewish Sea Stories (Jonathan
David Publishers).
First issued as a hard cover
book in 1965, the paperback
now made available promises
again to be a Jewish best seller.
Talmudic tales also are in-
cluded in this volume in the
form of parables enhancing the
theme.
The Bible story of Jonah
understandably plays a big role
in these roles. World War II ac-
counts add to the wise selection
of stories by the editor of this
noteworthy volume, Chaplain
Samuel Sobel.
The U.S. Naval careeer of
Chaplain Sobel at once indicates
that the studies made of sea life
by the editor-compiler, of this
book qualify him for the task he
has performed. Chaplain Sobel
was the first rabbi to be ap-
pointed to the regular, U.S. '
Navy. He theit became chaplain
of the U.S. Marine Corps.
