DENTISTS WITH patients
who have trouble keeping in
their fillings ... take note ...
Prominent archeologist Joe Zias,
currator of Israel's Antiquities
Department at museum in
Jerusalem ... and nephew of the
late Irving I. Katz, former execu-
tive director of Temple Beth El
. was featured in a Chicago
Sun Tines article which told of
his finding the oldest known
dental filling.
It was in the skull of a Naba-
tean warrior, believed to be
2,200 years old ... Zias, who
emigrated to Israel from Yp-
silanti, confirmed with medical
historians in the U.S. that "this
is the oldest tooth ever found
with the filling intact. Nobody
knew people did this kind of op-
eration that long ago ... Accord-
ing to the article, Zias, who
comes to the U.S. this month to
speak at Washington, D.C.'s
Smithsonian Institute, said the
man died about 200 B.C. ... De-
ntistry dates back about 5,000
years.
TYPO ERRATA ... Correct
spelling is Richard Gibbs ...
new president of Sophie & Harry
Hoffman Chapter, City of Hope.
MARGO ROSENTHAL, sec-
ond half of mother-daughter
team at The Paper Place,
Applegate Square, with Esther
Rosenthal ... has been together
with mom since the Northwest-
ern Hwy. center opened seven
years ago ... Margo works at
The Paper Place during day ...
and attends Detroit College of
Law at night.
The Paper Place used to be
noted for invitations, greeting
cards, napkins, etc. ... but
there's quite a difference in the
double space occupied about a
year ... Now customers come in
for coffee beans, candy by the
bulk, funky jewelry, engraving,
tea kettles, coffee makers and
mugs ... plus an unlimited
amount of interesting things .. .
Margo and Esther have made
The Paper Place much more
than just that ... It's now also
quite a gift center.
ESTHER ALLWEISS -
TSCHIRHART, writer and copy
editor at Detroit Free Press, will
tell her moving experiences in
this Sunday's FP magazine sec-
tion ... journeying to Poland
searching for- Holocaust survivor
father's roots ... Esther is the
daughter of Irma' and Zyga
Allweiss.
STILL SOME BOOTHS left

used for Janet, former city em-
ployee and wife of Southfield
police officer Charles "Dusty"
Rhodes ... She has undergone a
bone marrow transplant at Fred
Hutchinson Canber Research
Center in Seattle, Wash. and
will be hospitalized at least three
months.
Monies remaining from affair
will be given to Children's
Leukemia Foundation of Michi-
gan ... For ticket info, call

WOULD YOU BELIEVE ...
this Saturday is Applegate
Square's seventh anniversary al-
ready?.. The 27 stores were
the first fashion strip center in
tri-country area ... Fellows re-
sponsible, Harold, Jerry, and
Norman Beznos, Ron Licht and
Leonard Siegal, who practically
"live together" on same floor of
Northwestern Hwy's United Sav-
ings Bldg., went on to put to-
gether The Boardwalk, a mar-
velous concept on Orchard Lake
Rd. south of Maple . . . and Sugar
Tree, Orchard Lake Rd. north of
Maple.
150 ATTENDED recent fash-
ion show produced by Leah
Marks at Silver Fox Furs, Hun-
ters Square ... and marveled at
the models wearing gorgeous
outerwear and D.O.C. Optique
designer-framed "snow glasses."
Abe Stuck, owner of Silver
Fox, has three stores ... Brook-
lyn, Alaska and Farmington
Hills which he opened Aug. 1 .
Seven years ago, Abe came here
from Odessa, Russia and two
years later opened the Brooklyn
operation.
Leah's five beautiful models
strutted elegantly in unusual
furs from France, Italy, De-
nmark, Norway, Greece, U.S.
and Canada ... contemporary
and traditional ... very expen-
sive to inexpensive.
The models looked like they
were made for the coats ... and
vice versa ... strolling onstage
in front of store and to front
window as "mannequins."
Silver Fox fashion show was
simple but delightful ... and the
D.O.C. Optique frames were also
a standout in all shades and
shapes that made the lovely
models look even lovelier.
