thousands of unseen partners
there with us.
Who they are says everything
about who we are as Jews.
They represent individual mo-
ments of personal victory: an im-
migrant growing tomatoes in the
sand of a border kibbutz near the
Dead Sea. A youngster, once
without hope in a depressed
neighborhood of Ramie, planning
his future as a computer pro-
grammer. '
They are those who would give
in to despair but for us: a congre-
gation of elderly Jews in Krakow,
the last of a once-vibrant commu-
nity kept alive by the Joint Dis-
tribution Committee. A valiant
family of refuseniks in the Soviet
Union whose lives are bearable
because we have refused to give
them up to the darkness.

•Rudy Made Frames,

RODNICK BROS.

They are the keys to our own
future: a child experiencing the
joy of Shabbat. A college' student
awakening to his Jewishness:
It is no accident that Ben Ro-
senthal and his committee chose
18 kilometers for the Walk. As
you know, 18 is chai — life — and
our 'Allied Jewish Campaign
theme for 1985 is We Are One:
Partners for Life.
All that we have done in our
historic partnership, and all that
we do now and into the future for
our partners around the world,
speaks of life. We are proud to
share with you in our commu-
nity's single largest enterprise,
the lifeline we call the Allied
Jewish Campaign.
So, put on your walking shoes
and join us and your other
partners for the start of the best
Campaign ever!

Hillel Day School
Clarifies Policy

A recent article in one of the
local papers discussed the con-
troversial issue of who is a Jew.
Unfortunately, the reference to
Hillel Day School's admissions
policy was very misleading in that
article.
Hillel is an affiliate of the Sol-
omon Schechter Day School Asso-
ciation. We follow their policy in
admitting, "only children born of
a Jewish mother or children who
have been converted to Judaism."
If there are any further clarifi-
cations requested about our pol-
icy, please call me at the school.

The Orthodox
Vs. The Majority

The right wing of the Orthodox
movement, ,including the Chief
Rabbinate 'of the State of Israel,
have no' respect for. the Reform
and Conservative members of our
faith. Needless to say, based on
the Bar Mitzvah incident in Po-
land last month, they have no re-
spect religiously-for women any-
where.

The totality of their utterances
would indicate that we, who are
Reform and Conservative, may
not even be considered legitimate
members of our faith by this
group. Only those Jews who be-
lieve exactly as they believe and
who do exactly what they want
done are considered authentic
Jews. Anyone else has to prove his
lineage and his faith, to match the
demand of this group of fanatics.
The most recent charges
against the. Ethiopian Jews who
suffered throughout the centuries
and were then brought out into
the light of the' Twentieth Cen-
tury by the Western world and the
modern leaders of Israel; are-indi-
cative of the granite-like atti-
tudes of this Orthodox leadership.
It is high time that we who are
Reform, Rtconstructionist and
Conservative, representing as we
do about 85 percent of American
Jewry, take off our gloves and
fight this extremist group who
would rule us out of Judaism. If
they want to live and continue the
traditions of ghetto-like Judaism,
which was all that was available
to Jews for several hundred years
in Europe, more power to them. I
respect their right to do so. I do not
respeCt at all their attempt to run
me out of my religious home .. .
