Rosenthal and co-chairmen Alan
Yost and Susan Citrin. Area
schools and synagogues have
heard presentations on the day's
events, and a volunteer group
under Citrin is setting up and de-
corating the Center today.
Rosenthal also credits Leonard
Milstone, Joyce Luft and other
staff at Federation, other com-
munal agencies and Michigan
State Temple Youth and United
Synagogue Youth chapters for
making the day a popular, com-
munity wide event. "Now," he
says, "all we have to do is pray for
sunshine."

Israelis Involved
In Crime Rings

New York — Some 2,500 Is-
raelis are operating organized
crime rings in New York, Los
Angeles, Chicago and Miami,
filling a vacuum created by the
federal crackdown on Sicilian-
based Mafia operations in the
United States, according to
Rudolph Giuliani, U.S. attorney
for the Southern District of New
York.
Giuliani said Israeli criminals
have formed loose immigrant
gangs numbering 50-60 each
and that Israeli-organized crime
is growing in the U.S., with
connections in South America
and western Europe. Their main
business, the U.S. attorney said,
is narcotics, although Israelis
play only a minor role in the
overall international drug trade.
In Jerusalem, Israeli Police
Minister Chaim Bar-Lev ac-
knowledges that Israelis are in-
volved in organized rackets, but
he contends they do not bear
any resemblance to the Mafia's
organized-crime families in the
U.S. and Italy.
Israeli police meanwhile, feel
the drug trade is behind an
epidemic of robberies, and
automobile break-ins that has
sent the crime rate soaring in
Iirael during the past two years.

TIME TO CHANGE
TO
I
GUARANTY*
FEDERAL.

Do you find yourself wait-
ing in long lines only to reach
a short-tempered teller? Does
your bank bog you down with stacks
of forms, piles of applications and miles of red tape? And when
they finally get around to talking to you, can you understand
what they're saying?
If not, Ws time to change to Guaranty Federal.
At Guaranty Federal money matters, but people matter more.
That's why we're always more friendly. More courteous. More
helpful. We'll give you more of our time and spend less of yours
by serving you faster. And Guaranty Federal has the benefits
and services of the big impersonal banks.
So if your bank is glad to handle your money but doesn't
handle you with care, it's time to change to Guaranty Federal.

Israel's Galilee:
Silicon Valley

New York (JTA) — The fu-
ture of northern Israel lies in
advanced technological de-
velopment, according to
Binyamin Netanyahu, Israel's
Ambassador to the United Na-
tions.
The area has few natural re-
sources and Israel, like Japan,
must fully develop its human
resources, he declared in an ad-
dress to the American Friends of
Haifa University in New York.
Haifa University is particu-
larly important to this end, he
said.
Netanyahu used the term
"siliconization" to describe his
vision of northern Israel as a
counterpart 'of California's "Sili-
con Valley" where microchips
and other advanced electronic
components are developed and
manufactured.
