Polish Leader
Cites Efforts
New York (JTA) — Prime
Minister Wojcieck Jaruzelsi of
Poland told a group of World
Jewish Congress (WJC) officials
in New York last week that the
Polish Government hoped West-
ern Jewish communities would
reciprocate with goodwill for ef-
forts by his government on be-
half of Jewish causes.
Jaruselski met for about an
hour at the Polish Mission to
the United Nations with Edgard
Bronfman, WJC President;
Kalman Sultanik, WJC vice
president; and Elan Steinberg,
WJC executive director.
Jaruzelski refkred specifically
to Polish Government efforts to
restore the Jewish pavilion at
Auschwitz and the abandoned
Jewish cemeteries in Poland. He
also cited documentations sent
to the Museum of the Diaspora
in Tel Aviv.
Group Opposes
Rabbi Kahane
Tel Aviv (JTA) — A coalition
aimed at halting Rabbi Meir
Kahane from spreading racist
doctrines was unveiled in Tel
Aviv last week.
The group, calling itself
Maaneh (Response), said first
move will be to urge Police
Minister Haim Barley to pro-
hibit demonstrations by Rabbi
Kahane's Kach Party. It will
also pressure Knesset members
to suspend Rabbi Kahane who
holds Kach's single seat in Par-
liament, on grounds that he dis-
seminates race hatred, threatens
his opponents and has publicly
insulted president Chaim Her-
zog.
