at a 50th anniversary reunion of
former campers Oct. 18 - 20 at
the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
The weekend will begin with
a reception at 8 p.m. Oct. 18 at
the hotel, according to commit-
tee organizers Doreen Hermelin,
Marilyn Mendelson and Richard
Golden. A Tamakwa-style cook-
out will be held on Oct. 19 at
the home of David and Doreen
Hermelin and a reunion ban-
quet will be held at 7:30 p.m.
that day at the hotel. A brunch
at 10 a.m. Oct. 20 will conclude
this weekend.
The Oct. 19 banquet will fea-
ture musical numbers from past
camp productions and old camp
films. There also will be a dis-
play of camp memorabilia.
Guests will receive a souvenir
book.
The camp was founded by Mr.
Handler and Omer Stringer in
1936 at South Tea Lake in Al-
gonquin Park, Canada. Mr.
Handler, and his late sister,
Esta Kraft, owned and operated
the camp until their deaths in
the 1970s.
Kal Bandalene and Ron Char-
foos also directed the camp for
many years.
Currently Vic Norris, David
Bale and Howard' Perlmutter of
Toronto own and operate the
camp.
A scholarship fund in memory
of Mr. Handler and Mrs. Kraft
has been established. The
money will be allocated to the
Jewish Community Center to
provide camping and rec-
reational activities for children.
Reservations to the reunion
are due by Oct. 11. For details,
call the reunion hotline, 544-
